Shortlisted – Sony World Photography Awards 2020

Produced by the World Photography Organisation, the internationally acclaimed Sony World Photography Awards are one of the most important fixtures and toughest competitions in the global photographic calendar.

Now in its 13th year, the Awards consist of four competitions covering both professional and students, and categories including Architecture, Documentary, Landscape, Portraiture, Wildlife and Still Life to name but a few.  All images are judged by industry experts from across the world, who come together each year in London to reward standout works.  The Awards provide those working in photography a global stage to showcase their work.

Despite the high level of competition this year we decided to give these awards a try for the first time, and entered just two images in the Still Life category.  Still Life is an area of photography that Ian often dabbles in to find inspiration and prefect techniques for the advertising images we create for clients.  As this isn’t the main area in which we work, we were unsure of the reception to our work and also with the shear number of images entered in to this competition we weren’t accepting much to be honest!  We were therefore absolutely delighted and proud to hear that one of the images had been shortlisted!  Out of 193,278 images entered from 194 territories and countries, ours was one of the top 10 images – an incredible achievement.

This is our shortlisted image.

Each Spring the hugely popular Sony World Photography Awards Exhibition goes on show at the famous London landmark, Somerset House.  Attracting 25,000 visitors each year, the Exhibition is a must-see event in the capital’s cultural calendar.  Following its London debut, the exhibition tours globally to Europe, Asia and the Americas.  Sadly this year the exhibition itself has had to be cancelled, in line with UK government advise and in consideration of the health and safety of staff and visitors.  Instead the World Photography Organisation are creating a digital showcase here of shortlisted images.  The Open images will be available on the showcase from 28th May 2020.

We are thrilled of this achievement and recognition of our work.  The Sony World Photography Awards badge, which is only awarded to shortlisted photographers, is now proudly displayed at the bottom of our website.
